RSS Feeds

What is RSS monitoring?

RSS monitoring lets you track new content from your favorite websites automatically. Instead of visiting each site manually, Backdrop periodically checks the feeds you add and detects new entries. This is useful for staying up to date with news, blogs, publications, changelogs, and any site that publishes an RSS or Atom feed.

Adding a feed

To add a feed, go to the RSS tab in Settings and paste the feed URL. Most websites publish their RSS feed at predictable URLs — look for the RSS icon or check the site's documentation. Once added, Backdrop will begin monitoring the feed and logging new entries. You can add as many feeds as your plan allows.

How it works

Backdrop periodically checks each of your feeds for new content. When a new entry is detected, it is recorded in your feed log along with the entry title, publication date, and a link to the original content. The check frequency depends on your plan and system load. Each feed shows the last time it was checked so you know it is active.

Managing feeds

The RSS settings page shows all your monitored feeds in one place. For each feed, you can see its URL, the date it was added, the last check time, and the number of entries detected. You can remove any feed at any time if you no longer wish to monitor it. Removing a feed does not affect previously detected entries.

Use cases

RSS monitoring in Backdrop is useful for a variety of scenarios:

  • Monitor news outlets and publications for new articles on topics you follow
  • Track blog updates from industry leaders and competitors
  • Watch changelogs and release notes for software you depend on
  • Follow regulatory and compliance updates from government agencies
  • Keep up with academic journals and research publications
