Collections
What are collections?
Collections let you group related archives together, much like folders on your computer. Instead of browsing through all your archives one by one, you can organize them by topic, project, client, or any system that works for you.
A collection can contain any number of archives, and an archive can belong to multiple collections simultaneously.
Creating a collection
To create a collection, navigate to the Collections page in your dashboard and click the button to create a new collection. You will be asked to provide:
- Name — A descriptive title for your collection.
- Description — An optional summary of what the collection contains.
- Visibility — Choose between public and private.
If you set a collection to public, you can optionally customize its URL slug for easier sharing.
Public vs. private
Private collections are only visible to you (and your team members, depending on your plan). They do not appear in search results and cannot be accessed by anyone without explicit team access.
Public collections get a shareable URL that anyone can view, even without a Backdrop account. Public collections are great for sharing research, creating resource lists, or publishing curated content. You can make any private collection public at any time, and vice versa.
Adding archives
You can add archives to a collection directly from the archive detail page, or by editing the collection and searching for archives to include. The same archive can appear in multiple collections — useful if a single page is relevant to several projects or topics.
Sharing
Public collections are accessible at your-backdrop-url/c/collection-slug. You can share this link with anyone, and they will see all the archives in that collection. Each archive in a public collection is still owned and managed by you — viewers cannot modify or delete them.
Collection limits
The number of collections you can create and the number of archives each collection can hold depends on your plan. Your dashboard shows your current usage so you can track where you are relative to your limits. If you need more capacity, consider upgrading your plan.
