Notifications

Backdrop sends notifications for a variety of events so you never miss important updates. Notification types include:

• Archive complete or failed — whether your archiving job succeeded or encountered an error
• Subscription renewed or failed — payment and renewal status updates
• Team invite — when someone invites you to join a team
• Storage warning — when you are approaching or have exceeded your storage limit
• Credits low — when your AI credit balance is running low

In-app notifications appear in your notification feed, accessible from the bell icon in the dashboard header. Each notification shows the type, a brief message, a timestamp, and often a link to take action. You can toggle each notification type on or off independently from the Notifications section in Settings.

In addition to in-app notifications, you can receive email copies of important events. Each notification type has its own email toggle, so you can choose which events warrant an email. If you are not receiving expected emails, check your spam folder and verify that your email address is correct in your account settings. Some notifications — like subscription and team invite — have emails enabled by default.

Administrators can enable or disable all notifications or all emails globally through the admin panel. When notifications are disabled globally, no in-app notifications are created. When emails are disabled globally, no notification emails are sent regardless of individual user preferences. These global toggles are useful during maintenance windows or for compliance purposes.

When you create a new Backdrop account, default notification preferences are applied automatically. Most notification types are enabled by default for in-app delivery. Email delivery varies by type — subscription-related and team invite notifications are enabled by email by default, while others are in-app only. You can customize all of these preferences at any time.
