Alternative to Perma.cc
More formats, more control, more value.
Beyond link rot prevention — full content preservation.
Perma.cc is a trusted tool for preventing link rot in academic and legal citations, but its single-format capture and restrictive free tier limit its usefulness. Backdrop captures every page in four formats (HTML, PDF, screenshot, readable text), offers 100 free archives per month instead of Perma.cc's 10, and adds full-text search, annotations, and rich collection organization.
Why users leave Perma.cc
Limited to a single screenshot-like capture format.
Strict quota system — free users only get 10 archives per month.
No full-text search across archived pages.
No annotations, highlighting, or note-taking capabilities.
No direct one-click browser extension for manual archiving.
